I'm Ready To Let you Go Now (Poem)
I’m ready to let you go now,
if you’re ready to let me go
I promised you I’d find a way to carry on living
when you couldn’t carry on living anymore
that I’d finally move out of that dreadful town
to the place my heart was aching for
and I did
some memories are too painful to keep on reliving
like the ones clinging to the pavements we used to walk
I still find it hard to talk about last spring
the air hung heavy with the perfume of fresh flowers
the sunlight flooded through the dusty kitchen window
on the cold cups of tea and half-eaten toast
and you just lay there, unaware
of the world moving on around you
and the ways that we would move on without you
sometimes I wish I’d have gone with you;
playing out this façade of life can grow tiring at times
and people don’t seem to quite understand
but given the chance, I know you’d rather be here
than there
so I tell myself to stop fantasising
about the different ways to disappear
because life is so incredibly precious,
and this world does not deserve
another disaster
and I hope you understand my decision
to allow myself to smile and mean it
because I’m ready to let you go now,
if you’re ready to let me go
